Fire Chief, Adam Smith

Fire Chief Adam Smith was appointed to his position in June 2016. Adam served previously as 1st Assistant Chief for one year, and five years as a Captain for the Fire Department.

Adam moved to the Town of Raymond in 2006 and joined the department while pursuing a Fire Science degree at Gateway Technical College. Adam’s aspirations of a career in the Fire Service led him to part time employment with Sturtevant Fire Department, prior to the merger creating South Shore Fire Department. Adam completed his Associate’s degree at Gateway in 2007.

In 2010, Chief Smith became an Advanced EMT (A-EMT, at the time referred to IV Technician) to bolster his resume and skill set offered to the Department. Chief Smith has served as a board of director and as the vehicle maintenance officer making sure that all of our equipment is safe and ready to go. Over the years Chief Smith has held many responsibilities during his officer tenure. His greatest passion, as many would attest has been his contributions as Fire Training Officer. RFRD has conducted several excellent trainings revered by our colleagues across all of our neighboring departments. Notably a joint effort between Chief Smith and Captain Dinauer in 2014 was an incredible Mass Casualty Incident training spanning multiple counties and twenty five different first responder agencies. The department’s Fire training program has certainly made significant strides in the always changing world of Firefighting principles.

Outside of the department, Chief Smith has been known as “go-to guy” when it comes to repairing a piece of emergency apparatus, where he spent 6 years working for a local Fire/EMS specialty repair facility. While it may seem all of these accomplishments and hours leaves little recreation, Chief always find time to spend with his 2 beautiful children Makenna and Warren and wife Rachel. It’s not uncommon to find Adam in the yard taking on a project around the house or in the garage working on one of the vehicles in the family fleet.
